Summary

Yesterday, firefighters continued strong suppression efforts to keep the Goldledge Fire at bay. High winds have abated allowing crews to be transported by helicopter to the northeast tip of the fire to tackle steep terrain and build needed direct line. Several crews will stage at Corral Creek and other crews are assigned to mop-up, patrol and monitor fire lines. The Goldledge Fire holds at 3900 acres and is 50% contained.

Fuels Involved

Annual grass, low shrubs,chaparral and chamise at lower elevations. Fire burning into ponderosa pine, mixed conifer forest.

Fire Behavior

Some active heat on the fireline was observed overnight. Fire progression conintues to be limited by natural barriers, low temperatures and higher humidity.

Significant Events

Winds have abated but temperatures are expected to increase and humidity decrease. Temperatures and RH are not expected to reach extremes observed during early burning periods of the fire. Area closure for the Western Kern Plateau remains in effect. Continued need for the area closure will be re-evaluated on a daily basis.

Planned Actions

Winds have abated and opportunity for helicopter transport of crews to Division C will aid line construction on eastern flank where the fire crested the edge of the Kern Plateau. Good progress was made hot spotting and cold trailing fingers in Division D. West flank continues to hold.
