Inciweb: CA-LPF- Jesusita Fire News Release Posted: 10 May 2009 05:36 PM PDT Information Regarding How Fire StartedIncident: Jesusita Wildland Fire The fire cause appears related to the use of power tool equipment involved in vegetation clearance. Fire investigators are requesting public assistance with identification of the person or persons engaged in vegetation clearance on Monday, May 4th, and Tuesday, May 5th, 2009. The unidentified persons are known to have been on the trail between 10:30 a.m. and 1:30 p.m. on both days. Please call the Santa Barbara County Tip Line at 805-686-5061 with information. Jesusita Fire: Ventura County firefighter/engine burn-over photos Posted: 10 May 2009 09:54 AM PDT Graphic photos of the Ventura County Fire Department firefighter engine burn-over on the Jesusita Fire The three firefighters being treated at the Grossman Burn Center are: The three Ventura County firefighters injured while fighting the Jesusita Fire in Santa Barbara County are still being listed in serious, but stable condition at the Grossman Burn Center in Sherman Oaks. The current condition of the injured firefighters and their prognosis has not been updated on the County of Ventura website since 5-7. Link Captain Brian Bulger, a 30-year veteran of the Ventura County Fire Department. Captain Bulger is 57 years old and a resident of Ventura. His normal duty station is Station 21 in Ojai. Captain Ron Topolinski has served with the Ventura County Fire Department for 28 years. He is 51 years old and a resident of Camarillo. His normal duty station is Station 57 in Somis. Firefighter Robert Lopez has been a firefighter for the Ventura County Fire Department since 2000. He is 44 years old and lives in Port Hueneme. His normal duty station is Station 54 in Camarillo. Eva Marie Schicke Memorial Highway dedicated Posted: 10 May 2009 08:59 AM PDT Stretch Of Hwy 120 Renamed After Fallen Firefighter Groveland, CA -- A four mile segment of Hwy 120 has been renamed the "Eva Marie Schicke Memorial Highway." A sign has been placed in memory of Schicke, who was killed fighting a fire in the steep Tuolumne River Canyon on September 12, 2004. The stretch of road is from the Tuolumne-Mariposa County line to the rim of the World Vista Point east of Groveland. A ceremony was held Friday along Hwy 120 and attended by CAL Fire Chief Del Walters, Tuolumne-Calaveras Unit Chief Mike Noonan, Assemblyman Tom Berryhill and Eva Marie Schicke's mother Joyce. CAL FIRE Firefighter I Eva Schicke was killed on September 12, 2004, when her helitack crew was overrun by fire in the Tuolomne River Canyon on the Stanislaus National Forest in California. Shicke, who was 23, had been a seasonal firefighter with the California Department of Forestry and Fire Protection for five seasons. The other six firefighters with her received minor to moderate injuries in the inciden The fire where Eva Schicke died was a relatively small one in rugged, forested terrain that had been under high fire alert for the past month. Aircraft down with fire: Barona Mesa - Crash kills two Posted: 10 May 2009 08:32 AM PDT Two dead in a light plane crash in Barona Mesa yesterday afternoon, CalFire reports. Officials reported that the experimental plane took off from Ramona Airport and was registered to a Ramona resident. The names of the victims have not been released. Location: Barona Mesa near Mesa Estates Road is south of San Diego Country Estates in Ramona. Sizeup: Two dead, No fire or threat to structures in the area. |
