Microsoft Updates for Multiple Vulnerabilities

Original release date: January 8, 2008
Last revised: January 8, 2008
Source: US-CERT

Systems Affected

* Microsoft Windows

Overview

Microsoft has released updates that address critical vulnerabilities
in Microsoft Windows. Exploitation of these vulnerabilities could
allow a remote, unauthenticated attacker to execute arbitrary code,
gain elevated privileges, or crash a vulnerable system.

I. Description

Microsoft has released updates to address vulnerabilities that affect
Microsoft Windows as part of the Microsoft Security Bulletin Summary
for January 2008. The most severe vulnerabilities could allow a
remote, unauthenticated attacker to execute arbitrary code. For more
information, see the US-CERT Vulnerability Notes Database.

II. Impact

A remote, unauthenticated attacker could execute arbitrary code, gain
elevated privileges, or cause a denial of service.

III. Solution

Apply updates from Microsoft

Microsoft has provided updates for these vulnerabilities in the
January 2008 security bulletins. The security bulletins describe any
known issues related to the updates. Administrators are encouraged to
note these issues and test for any potentially adverse effects.
Administrators should consider using an automated update distribution
system such as Windows Server Update Services (WSUS).

Burning operations will continue on weekdays throughout the winter between 8:30 a.m. and 4:30 p.m

Sunday, January 6, 2008

Update 4 — 8:06pm, Sunday

Green Valley Lake, CA - "We will continue to search for him throughout the night as weather permits."

That statement in a San Bernardino County Sheriff's Department press release sets the tone for the ongoing search in the Green Valley Lake area for 62-year-old Dean Christy.

The release also stated San Bernardino County Fire personnel joined the search early Sunday operating snow cats delivering searchers to various locations and patrolling fire roads and breaks in hopes of locating the hiker who has been lost since Friday.

Search teams were reported coming into the Green Valley Lake Fire Station command post to rest and were being replaced by fresh searcheres.
