1303 hours CAL FIRE is on scene of a 5 acre brush fire at Willow Glen Drive and Singing Canyon Road (Thomas Brother Map Page 1272 F2). The fire was reported at 12:58 and the cause is under investigation. Currently we have 7 engines, 2 fire crews, 1 bulldozer, 1 helicopter, 2 airtankers and 1 chief officer en route. We are being assisted by San Miguel Fire Protection District. 1318 hours The fire is now 25 acres and is burning on the hillside behind the U.S. Fish and Games Shooting Range. There are structures ahead of the fire near Vista Grande Road. The Incident Commander has just ordered 2 Type 1 Strike Teams (10 Engines) for structure protection and 2 additional helicopters. Sheriff's Department is conducting evacuations. 1347 hours The fire is now 60 acres and structure protection engines are staging off of Vista Sierra. There has been one minor injury to a firefighter. Powerlines in the area are hampering Air Operations, and three additional airtankers have been ordered. 1423 hours The mild burn victim was a civilian (who has since left the scene) not to a firefighter. We are in a Unified Command with San Miguel Fire. There is currently 25 engines, 6 fire crews, 2 water tenders, 1 bulldozer, 6 helicopters, 5 airtankers, and chief officers (approximately 300 firefighters). 1449 hours The fire activity has slowed considerably, the airtankers have retardant across the head of the fire and firefighters are beginning to make some progress. However, this fire is neither contained nor controlled. There was one injury to a firefighter heat related. 1519 hours The fire is no longer actively spreading, and the fire was mapped at 60 acres in size. The Incident Commander has canceled one of the helicopters, one airtanker is orbit (just in case) and the rest are on a "load and hold" at Ramona Air Attack Base if they are needed. No homes were damaged or destroyed by this fire. A quick response by numerous firefighters on the ground and the air made the difference in stopping this fire from spreading into the structures. 1624 hours The Willow Fire is now 20% contained with full containment expected by tomorrow at 6 pm. Tomorrow there will be 5 engines and 5 fire crews assigned to the incident. last update on this incident. | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
