Around 5:50 p.m., Oakland resident Humberto Hernandez, 24, had been walking in the 900 block of 98th Avenue with his wife, Alameda County coroner's investigator Damon Wilson said. A motorist who was swerving to avoid a sharp object, or whose vehicle had just had a flat tire, struck the hydrant and the force of the water pressure propelled the heavy device at the victim. Afterward the woman driving the vehicle attempted to resuscitate the victim. He was later pronounced dead at a hospital." |
