| Posted: 19 Jun 2007 03:43 PM GMT-06:00 UPDATE (1) CA-SQF-Goldledge Goldledge Fire is approximately 3,900 ACRES acres with 70% containment. The eastern flank of the fire remains unlined due to unsafe terrain which limits access by ground based firefighters. Fire had held in steep rocky terrain for the past week and a half despite high winds, high temperature and and low humidity. Attempts to use rappel teams to access remote hotspots were largely unsuccessful. Water drops are being used to cool the remote hot spots. The fire made a run in an area with no hot spots identified by IR flights. The run by the fire yesterday created hotspots in new fuel and increases the chance for additional runs and potential spotting into mixed conifer forest on the Kern Plateau. Fire was active through the night but with minimal spread. Currently inversion and higer overnight humitidy reduced fire activity. No visible flame observed with several smokes are present in the area burned yesterday & last night. A type II Incident Management Team has been ordered and Team 2 (Woychak) is being mobilized with a tentative briefing for 12:00 hours Monday. |

UPDATE: 50-acre grass fire at Concord Naval Weapons Station contained By Cassandra Braun MediaNews Article Launched: 06/19/2007 02:23:12 PM PDT CONCORD - Fire crews have contained a fast-moving grass fire that burned more than 50 acres at the Concord Naval Weapons Station, authorities said. Weapons station fire teams and Contra Costa Fire district crews now are mopping up and investigating the cause of the wildland fire that broke out at the Weapons Station at about 10:20 a.m., said Contra Costa Fire Marshal Richard Carpenter. The two-alarm fire covered roughly 50 acres and was pushing south toward Nichols Road, before crews extinguished the blaze around 1:30 p.m., Carpenter said. Weapons Naval Station fire teams called for assistance from Contra Costa Fire District after the initial small grass fire at the facility quickly spread out of control shortly before 11 a.m. Fire teams from Cal Fire and an East Bay Regional Parks helicopter also assisted with the wildland blaze. |
