San Bernardino County SUV accident leaves victim on roof of home Posted: 17 Apr 2009 09:50 AM PDT Man thrown from car, winds up on roof of house Update: 1:20 p.m.- The motorist was pronounced dead at the scene. Original post: San Bernardino County sheriff's detectives are investigating a curious traffic accident, in which a 23-year-old man was ejected from his SUV and thrown onto the roof of a house in Apple Valley. Caleb Butler's sport utility vehicle rolled over several times, broke through a fence and came to rest in the driveway of the house, said Arden Wiltshire, a department spokesman. Butler appeared to be the only person in the vehicle and no one else was injured, she said. "I've seen some pretty grisly accidents and traffic collisions in my time, but I've never seen anything like this," Wiltshire said. Butler was believed to be driving west on Highway 18 when his Kia Sorrento veered off the road. The SUV came to rest on the highway near Flathead and Jicarilla roads. A local resident reported the man on the roof around 8 a.m. Wednesday, but Wiltshire said it was unclear when the accident occurred. Sheriff's officials don't believe any other cars were involved. They are still determining whether speed, drugs or alcohol were involved. Source: latimesblogs.latimes.com - Link | ||||||||||||||||||||
