CHICO — A man who allegedly tried to run over a Cal Fire-Butte County firefighter at a north Chico station Sunday has been arrested on suspicion of assault with a deadly weapon.

Chico police took Tommy Stephen Gois, 38, into custody Monday at a residence he was visiting on Morseman Avenue.

The name of the firefighter hasn't been released.

According to the victim and witnesses, Gois drove to station 42, on Frontier Circle, just after 11 p.m. Sunday and confronted a firefighter who had just returned from a call and was off-duty.

Gois reportedly yelled profanities at the victim, tried to spit on him, then got into his vehicle and drove toward the firefighter, who was able to move out of the way.

Gois then fled, but his identity was learned from the license plate on his vehicle.

He was booked into the Butte County Jail in Oroville.
