Headlines:

Two informational meetings on the Zaca Fire will be held on Saturday August 11 in the Lebec/Frazier Park area. At 12 noon a meeting will be held at the Pine Mountain Club, 2534 Beechwood Way and at 3pm at the Frazier Mountain High School, 700 Falcon Way, Lebec.

Current Situation:

The fire continues to be active on three fronts and is generating significant smoke. A focal point for today's activities is to finish containment of a small slop over in the Little Pine Mountain area. The fire continues to burn actively in Rattlesnake Canyon west of Samon Peak and the Alamar Canyon area. Hand crews, engines, and dozers are continuing with constructing contingency fire lines in the areas of Paradise, East Camino Cielo, Sierra Madre Ridge, Pendola Road, Matilija Wilderness, Dry Canyon to Hwy 33 and south of Hwy 33 to Divide Peak. Within the next couple of days, Fire Commanders will start burnout operations along many of the contingency lines. The purpose of the burnout operations is to create a black line to stop the forward progress of the fire. The burnout operations are expected to go on for several days and will generate significant smoke.

Forest, Road and Area Closures:

Happy Canyon Road is closed at Los Padres National Forest boundary.
Figueroa Mountain Road is closed at the Los Padres National Forest boundary.
East Camino Cielo is closed between Painted Cave Road and Gibraltar Road due to fire equipment traffic.
Paradise Road is within the Evacuation Order Area and is currently closed.

Evacuations:

An Evacuation Order is in effect for Paradise Road and Lower Santa Ynez River to Gibraltar Dam. This includes Paradise Road Community, Santa Ynez Road Recreational Area to Gibraltar Dam, Los Prietos Boys Camp, and the Rancho Oso Guest Ranch.

The fire has burned 81,795 acres and is 68 % Percent contained.

Critical Infrastructure Threatened (in hour time frames):
12 hours: Live Oak Zone - Paradise River Road to Gibraltar Dam. Major Electric Transmission Lines.
48 hours: Richardson Zone
- Southern California Gas Company, 20 inch natural gas pipeline.
72 hours: Richardson Zone - Residences along hwy 33 from Ozena north to Santa Barbara Canyon road Live Oak Zone
Narrative: The fire made several large runs in Indian Creek Canyon over the last two days creating an extensive fire front to the North and East. Over night the fire backed towards Buckhorn creek on the South end of the Dick Smith Wilderness and stayed on the ridges to the East of the wilderness. Some active burning was observed North of the Indian Creek Campground.
Richardson Zone - Occasional runs are occurring where slope and wind are aligned. Group torching. Live Oak Zone
The opening of the 154 hwy in conjunction with the anticipated heavy weekend traffic is a concern for firefighter and public safety however speed and lane restrictions are in place to help mitigate the risk.
Richardson Zone - The Acres, line to build, and structures threatened/lost are the combined total. The break down is as follows: Acres - Live Oak-75,300 Richardson-6,495. Line which remains to be built - Live Oak-40 miles, Richardson-17 miles. Structures threatened - Live Oak-515 Richardson-80

This incident is state responsibility and is located 9 Miles south west, near the community of Avenal in Kings County. Fire continues burning brass and brush north into Fresno Co, from Kings County in difficult terrain, steep mountains, inaccessible for engines. Fire is a threat to electrical transmission lines and infrastructure for the main power grid to Diablo Canyon. Fire made significant runs overnight. Team #9 (Windsor) has been activated with a tentative transition planned for the morning of 8/12/07.
This fire has the potential to burn 30,000 acres and into San Luis and Monterey Counties.
