Summary

The Butler 2 Fire was reported at 1:21 pm on Friday northwest of Big Bear Lake. The fire is currently 15, 433 acres and 12% contained. Highway 18 is closed from Running Springs east to Big Bear Dam. Drivers may not access Big Bear from Hwy 18 or from Hwy 330 in San Bernardino, but Hwy 18 is open from Apple Valley (the high desert). Drivers may also access Big Bear via Hwy 38 from I-10 in Redlands.

Manadatory Evacuations for Fawnskin-- Mandatory evacuations remain in effect for the Fawnskin area from the Big Bear Dam to The Discovery Center north of Hwy 38. An evacuation center has been setup at the Big Bear High School in Sugarloaf.

Voluntary Evacuations are in effect for the Green Valley Lake area-- The mandatory evacuation order for the entire community from Hwy 18 as well as campgrounds from Green Valley Lake RD has been downgraded to a voluntary evacuation status. Campgrounds include--Greeen Valley, Crab Flats, Tent Peg, and Fisherman's.

Evacuation center at Jerry Lewis Community Center in Highland.

Voluntary Evacuations remain in effect for Lucerne Valley from Crystal Creek Road on the east to High Rd on the west and North to the Pitzer Buttes area.

Voluntary Evacuations remain in effect for the communities of Running Springs and Arrowbear.

Evcaution center is at Victor Valley College.

Resources on Scene--66 hand crews, 41 engines, 14 helicopters, 12 air tankers,15 dozers, and 14 watertenders.

Mandatory Community Evacuations remain in effect for the Fawnskin area from the Big Bear Dam to The Discovery Center north of Hwy 38. An evacuatiion center has been setup at the Big Bear High School in Sugarloaf.

Updates: 9-16-07 12:01 p.m.

Mandatory evacuations: Banner and residents east of Sunshine Trail remain under an evacuation order. Residents west of Sunshine Trail are permitted back home. Evacuation orders have been lifted for residents of Kentwood in the Pines and Whispering Pines NORTH. The fire has burned 1,000 acres.

Road closures:
Wynola Rd. from Farmer Rd. to SR-78.
Farmer Rd. from A St. to Wynola Rd.
SR-78 from SR-79 to Sunshine Trail.
It is recommended that residents of Whispering Pines and Kentwood in the Pines take Highway 79 to Oak Land Road / Royal Drive for neighborhood re-entry.

Evacuation centers:
Ramona High School, 1401 Hansen Lane.
Borrego Springs High School, 2281 Diegueno Rd.
Livestock: Animals evacuated to Ramona Rodeo Grounds

The San Diego Sheriff's Dept. will patrol evacuated neighborhoods.

Updates:
Fire was active throughout the night with poor RH recoveries
Due to gusty winds and low humidity there is rapid rate of spread of the fire. Fire crews are evacuating multiple subdivisions in Julian.
Fire was visible near Vulcan Mountain and the wind was blowing in an easterly direction. Flames were visible from a mile away in Julian last night.

Resources: Fire officials said the fire was 20 percent contained as of 10 a.m. Sunday. In addition to the hundreds of firefighters on the ground battling the fire, at least two air tankers were involved in the effort.
Officials said on Saturday that a wildfire burning near Big Bear hindered efforts to replenish the proper personnel necessary to douse the fire.
Cause: The cause of the fire remains under investigation, officials said.

Two CalFire (CDC) inmates injured by a falling snag.

September 15th, (1700) "2 inmate firefighters were injured when the top of a burning tree fell on them. The injuries are NOT considered life threatening.Their injuries were not life-threatening.
Further information will be released when available.
Update: La Cima crew from near Julian. Transported to trauma center.
A third firefighter was hurt when he twisted an ankle.

Significant events today:

The fire was declared 100% contained today. Crews continue to patrol and mop up hot spots along the perimeter. the North Arm Indian Valley and Diamond Mountain roads remain open to residents only. The mandatory evacuation remains in effect for: Taylor Lake, Wilcox Valley, and Antelope Lake. A forest closure is in place to ensure safety in the vicinity of the fire. All major highways remain open, however most Forest roads are closed to access. Evacuations and road closures are beiing re-evaluated.

Remarks:

The structures listed as threatened are in the interior of the burn. The type II team is anticipated to arrive Sunday 9/16, shadow the type I team on Monday 9/17, and assume command of the fire at 0600 on Tuesday 9/18. The incident will continue to be managed by the type I team CIIMT-2 (Molumby) until the transition. Fire suppression repair/rehab has been initiated. Large scale resource demobilization has begun.
