AGO SummaryThe Ranch Fire started yesterday, October 20th at 9:42 pm near Townsand Peak, southwest of Templin Highway and Interstate 5, in the Angeles National Forest. The fire is burning southwest pushed by 20-30 mph winds with gusts to 60 mph. The terrain is rugged with medium to heavy chaparral brush typical of Southern California. This area has not burned for approximately 40 years. At 11:00 am today, the eastern flank of fire became very active burning east and upslope. Smoke and flame was visible from Interstate 5. Two helitankers are dropping water. Old dozer lines on west side of fire are being rehabbed for possible use. Weather reports call for continued Santa Ana winds with low humidity and temperatures ranging from 80's to 90's. One outbuilding (shed) has burned . No homes are in the immediate area and no homes in outlaying areas are threatened at this time. The fire is spreading towards the Piru drainage and Piru Lake recreation area some 5 to 6 miles distant. Condor habitat and watershed are currently being threatened. If the fire continues to move Southwest 200 home could become threatened in the Piru area A Type 1 Incident Management Team has been ordered, California Interagency Incident Management Team 3, Jeanne Pincha-Tulley Commanding. Firefighting resources on scene include 320 personnel with 15 Fire Engines, 9 Hand crews, 2 Helitankers, 2 Helicopters, 1 Air Attack Plane and 1 lead plane. CA-MVU-Witch - Major Vegetation Fire - Ramona area Posted: 22 Oct 2007 12:30 AM CDT 8000 + Acres 1% containment - Structure loss - Evacuations in Ramona Updates:The 78 Fire is 3,000 acres, structures are threatened in the fire area. The fire has crossed Highway 78 in several places. The fire is burning toward Old Julian Highway. Highway 78 is closed in the fire area, as is Old Julian Highway, between the communities of Ramona and Santa Ysabel. Additional firefighting resources have been ordered and are coming from a distance. Two Incident Command Teams have been ordered, one for each incident (Harris and Highway 78). CHP CAD reporting fire has jumped Highway 67 east of Ramona. Size: @ 1430 hrs 2000 acres. Location: Large header visible per CHP CAD in area of Deer Canyon in Julian area. CA-RRU- ROCA - Vegetation Fire Posted: 22 Oct 2007 01:19 AM CDT MANDATORY EVACUATIONS: 1045 PM MANDATORY EVACUATIONS FOR RESIDENTS OF JOJOBA HILL RECREATIONAL PARK also known as SKP. An evacuation center is being opened at the Temecula Community Center located at 30875 Rancho Vista Rd and Margarita Rd. Field PIO Captain Fernando Herrera is on scene and can be reached at 760-250 9881 ROAD CLOSURES: Highway 371 Btwn Wilson Valley Rd and Highway 79. Aircraft was initially grounded due to extreme winds. Fire is burning in a SW direction.544 pm Jojoba RV Resort. CHP, Riverside Sheriff Office and Riverside County Fire are working with the resort. Harris Fire - Four Cal Fire firefighters injured in burnover Posted: 22 Oct 2007 01:29 AM CDT Four firefighters were injured this afternoon when their engine company was engulfed by flames from the Harris Fire at around 1400 hours. UPDATE: Four Cal Fire firefighters were injured when their engine was burned over by fire, Two were critically burned, two minor burns, all flown to UCSD Burn Unit, One civilian fatality, one civilian critically burned, one civilian minor burns. This occurred just north of the California Mexico border The Firefighters were flown to the UCSD burn center in Hillcrest in unknown conditions according to CalFire. The incident may be related to a report by the California Highway Patrol that they had lost radio contact with one fire crew about an hour prior to that. The Harris Fire that began early Sunday morning about 70 miles east of San Diego and has burned more than 2,500 acres and injured at least these four firefighters, four civilians and has killed one civilian. CA-LAC-Buckweed Fire - Vegetation Fire - Agua Dulce Posted: 21 Oct 2007 09:13 PM CDT MANDATORY evacuations of upper Bouquet Canyon and Vasquez Canyon as well as the San Francisquito Canyon and Copperhill areas, up to Spunky Canyon Location: 34289 Rocking Horse Road in Agua Dulce.A total of 10 structures have been lost at this time due to the fire; A total of more than 10,000 acres have burned thus far; View Larger MapGoogle map link Google earth map location KML file Sizeup: 1000+ acres with structures burning... 3800 structures threatened, Historic structures may have also burned. Resources: Los Angeles County Fire, L.A. County Sheriff and the City of Santa Clarita are responding to the emergency with personnel and equipment. The following road closures are in affect: Sierra Highway and David Way Bouquet Canyon and David Way Bouquet and Vasquez Canyon Aqua Dulce and Sierra Highway Sierra Highway and Vasquez Canyon Whites Canyon and Steinway October 21st - 5:20 p.m. Whites Canyon Road and Steinway Street are closed to through traffic due to the approaching fire from the north. October 21st - 4:30 p.m. The Buckweed Fire in Agua Dulce is currently burning out of control, with 2,000 acres burned thus far. The fire has actually split and the two fires are burning on Sierra Highway. This fire has resulted in the following road closures: Sierra Highway is closed in both directions at Davenport Road. Bouquet Canyon is closed at both Plum Canyon and Copperhill Road. Lombardi Ranch has been evacuated as has Lily of the Valley Mobile Home Park. At this time, an evacuation center is being set up at Saugus High School. The fire does appear to be moving toward the City of Santa Clarita. Los Angeles County Fire, L.A. County Sheriff and the City of Santa Clarita are responding to the emergency with personnel and equipment. |
