Jesusita Fire - LPF #001479 - 8,600 acres 10% Update: 5-8-09 1800hrs- Jesusita Fire has now burned 8,600 acres north of Santa Barbara. The fire is still 10 percent contained. Structure threat: 3,500 residences and 100 commercial structures continue to be threatened. Homes: about 80 residences have been destroyed and or severely damaged. Fire behavior: The Jesusita Fire continues to spread north toward East Camino Cielo, and may spread beyond Cold Spring Creek to the east, west toward Mario Ignacio and south along the foothills of Santa Barbara and Goleta. Evacuation orders and warnings: No Change - as they were at 12:00 p.m. Friday. Resources: 3,455 total personnel fighting the fire. Equipment on the fire includes: 428 Engines, 76 Hand Crews, 26 Dozers, 3 Helicopters, 21 Water tenders, Cost: $3.2 million to date. Mandatory Evacuation Order: IF YOU FEEL YOU ARE IN DANGER, or threatened by the fire, please leave immediately. Officials urge you do not wait for a warning or an order to be issued. The mandatory evacuation order is expanded to include westbound State Street from Constance to La Cumbre, north on La Cumbre to La Colina Road, west on La Colina Road to Hwy 154, Hwy 154 south to Us 101, west on Us 101 to Patterson, north on Patterson to San Jose Creek to Camino Cielo. All points north of us 101 boundary are under mandatory evacuation order. All areas north of Sycamore Canyon Road and East Valley Road (Highway 192) between El Cielito Road and Gibraltar Road on the western boundary to Hot Springs Road north to East Camino Cielo on the eastern boundary. ALL OTHER PREVIOUS MANDATORY EVACUATION ORDER AREAS REMAIN IN EFFECT. Evacuation Warning Area: The evacuation warning area has just expanded on the west end to include the area of De La Vina and Vernon, south on Vernon to Stanley, west on Stanley to Las Positas, south on Las Positas to US 101, west on US 101 to State Street/Hwy 154. The Jesusita Fire Joint Information Center also states that the warning area is expanding on the east end to include the area of Milpas south to US 101, US 101 to San Ysidro Road, San Ysidro north to Camino Cielo. The above information is in addition to the following areas: Alamar at de la Vina, west on Alamar to Junipero St, west on Junipero St to us 101, north on us 101 to upper State Street, east on State Street to De La Vina south to Alamar Street. Warnings also continue from State Street and De La Vina, De La Vina to Anapamu, Anapamu to Anacapa, Anacapa south to De la Guerra, De la Guerra to Milpas, Milpas south to Quinientos Street, Quinientos Street to Clifton Street To Eucalyptus Hill Road, Eucalyptus Hill Road to Barker Pass, Barker Pass to Hwy 192 (Sycamore Canyon Road), Hwy 192 (Sycamore Canyon Road) west to Stanwood Drive. The evacuation warning area in the southwest is expanded to include from Alamar Ave. at State Street, south on Alamar Ave to the Hwy 101, 101 west to the Hwy 154, 154 north to La Colina, La Colina east to La Cumbre, La Cumbre south to State Street, and State Street east to Alamar. Update: 5-8-09 1200hrs - 3,500+ acres have now burned, New evacuations still in progress...Fire has crossed Highway 154 to the West. Update: 0930hrs 5-8-09 - According to the morning news briefing they're bringing in the DC-10 later today. Region IV OES resources deployed thus far: OES 2800A OES 4800A OES 4801A OES 4802A OES 5801A Update: 0900hrs 5-8-09 - "All hell broke loose," said Santa Barbara City Fire Chief Andy DiMizio, stating he never thought he would say those words. The fire has expanded five miles last night, and the evacuation areas have expanded west and south and now includes Montecito. Evacuation News: The Red Cross shelter at Dos Pueblos High School is full, housing 240 people. A new Red Cross shelter has been set up at UC Santa Barbara's Multi Activity Center (or MAC), currently housing 608 people. This shelter has the capacity to hold 800 to 900 people. The public health department is running a special needs shelter at UCSB's Thunderdome. The Red Cross headquarters on State Street were evacuated on Thursday, and they are now working out of the Goleta office at 5679 Hollister Avenue. Update: 0800hrs 5-8-09 - RE: Injured Ventura County Firefighters CAMARILLO, Calif. – The three Ventura County firefighters injured while fighting the Jesusita Fire in Santa Barbara County are still being listed in serious, but stable condition at the Grossman Burn Center in Sherman Oaks. Two press conferences have been scheduled for today. At 9:00 a.m. in Santa Barbara, there will be an update on current fire activities. At noon, a press conference will be held at the Grossman Burn Center to discuss the condition of the injured firefighters and their prognosis. The three firefighters being treated at the Grossman Burn Center are: Captain Brian Bulger, a 30-year veteran of the Ventura County Fire Department. Captain Bulger is 57 years old and a resident of Ventura. His normal duty station is Station 21 in Ojai. Captain Ron Topolinski has served with the Ventura County Fire Department for 28 years. He is 51 years old and a resident of Camarillo. His normal duty station is Station 57 in Somis. Firefighter Robert Lopez has been a firefighter for the Ventura County Fire Department since 2000. He is 44 years old and lives in Port Hueneme. His normal duty station is Station 54 in Camarillo. Update: 0745hrs 5-8-09 - OSCC News and Notes - Jesusita Fire: 3,500 acres 10% contained. Last night the fire continued to spread north towards Camino Cielo, East towards Cold Spring Creek, West towards Mario Ignacio and South along the foothills of Santa Barbara and Goleta. 3,500 residences and 100 commercial properties are threatened. Update: 0720hrs 5-8-09 - Montecito Fire Department has issued new evacuation orders this morning, as of 7:20 a.m. Mandatory evacuation order is expanded to include a portion of Montecito as follows:All areas north of Sycamore Canyon and East Valley Rd (Hwy 192) between El Cielto Rd and Gibraltar Rd on the Western boundary, To Hot Springs Road North to East Camino Cielo* on the Eastern Boundary. Crews held the fire West of Gilbraltor Road overnight despite significant spotting. Evacuation remains in effect. Good progress and line construction. Remarks: CAL FIRE Incident Command Team 4 (Waterman) in unified command with D'Andrea, Schmitt, McElroy, and Wallace as of 0700. Operational periods are now 24-hour shifts. Observed Fire Behavior: Upslope runs late in the afternoon with 60 to 100 foot flame lengths on the upper third of the Santa Ynez Mountains. Relatively slow 20 chains per hour rate of spread due to 130% live fuel moisture. Localized flare ups and smoldering seen in the grass/brush fuels on the lower slopes since winds have not surfaced. Jesusita Fire was very active on South Western flank with reports of spotting occurring ¼ mile ahead of the main portion of the fire hampering suppression efforts as 3,500 residences and over 100 commercial properties are currently threatened. · The winds shifted this afternoon to South-Southeast and have pushed the fire into Barger Cyn. (West flank) and further up Rattlesnake Canyon (East flank). · Evacuating Barger Canyon is being considered if the fire continues to move in that direction. · 75 structures have been determined to have been damaged. Additional assessments are still forthcoming. Weather: Anticipated Sundowners were comparatively mild last night with a slight onshore West to Northwest marine flow currently being experienced. RAWS: LPF03 PORTABLE SBC PORTABLE 2 Evacuation Order has been issued for the area west of the existing evacuation area to include all areas north of US Highway 101 and east of Patterson Avenue. An Evacuation Warning/Advisory remains in effect for area north of US Highway 101 between Patterson Avenue and Fairview Avenue continuing north from the end of Fairview Avenue to West Camino Cielo (northern boundary). Residents are encouraged to prepare for the need to evacuate in the near future.Mandatory Evacuation Orders: The Mandatory Evacuation Order is expanded to include westbound State Street from Constance to La Cumbre, north on La Cumbre to La Colina Road, west on La Colina Road to HWY 154, HWY 154 south to US 101, west on US 101 to Patterson, north on Patterson to San Jose Creek to Camino Cielo.
