| Breaking News: Winds fuel brush fire in Lucerne Valley | Posted: 06 Jul 2007 01:22 AM CDT Victorville Daily Press Winds fuel brush fire in Lucerne ValleyAs of 6 p.m., the blaze was estimated at over 250 acres and officials had no containment, said Tracey Martinez, spokeswoman for the San Bernardino County Fire Department. The fire began just north of Specialty Minerals Cement Plant during severe storm activity, Martinez said. The cause was unknown, but there was speculation that a downed power line may be responsible. More than 200 firefighters were on scene battling the flames, and they are expected to work into the evening. No structures are in danger of burning, Martinez said. |

| Wildfire Burning In San Bernardino County Posted: 05 Jul 2007 10:06 PM CDT A brush fire is burning out of control in Lucerne Valley in San Bernardino County. The fire has burned more than 400 acres since it broke out around 3:30 p.m. Thursday. A California Department of Forestry and Fire Protection spokesman says 60 mile-per hour winds are fanning the blaze across a sparsely populated area near the backside of the San Bernardino Mountains. About 200 firefighters are battling the blaze. No structures are threatened. The cause is under investigation. |

Seven engines, a water tender, a transport dozer and two baseline crews were ordered, but the fire was quickly extinguished and the recall came within 15 minutes of the resource order. This marks at least the third fire in this area this year. No cause of the fire has been determined. |

The fires were reported in the Santa Susana Pass area north of the Ronald Reagan (118) Freeway near North Topanga Canyon Boulevard at 5:51 p.m., said Brian Humphrey of the Los Angeles Fire Department, which assisted the Los Angeles County Fire Department in fighting the blazes. The two small fires, which each consumed less than an acre, were knocked down by about 6:30 p.m., according to a county fire dispatcher. The fires were about a quarter acre apart, according to broadcast reports. |

Firefighters have worked overnight to battle a wildfire northwest of Santa Barbara burning through steep and rugged terrain and fueled by low humidity and triple-digit temperatures. Fire officials say the so-called Zaca Fire broke out just before 11 a.m. Wednesday 15 miles north of Los Olivos and has scorched 700 acres of brush. No structures have been threatened. An unknown number of revelers at Zaca Lake, near where the fire started, were voluntarily evacuated yesterday. More than 200 firefighters, eight water-dropping helicopters and multiple agencies are fighting the flames. Three firefighters suffered heat exhaustion yesterday, and one firefighter had a cut finger. Concern that the wildfire could move toward the Los Padres National Forest remains high. A CHP spokesman told The Sacramento Bee that there's no indication that fire units' response to the blaze was delayed, but dispatchers initially may have told 9-1-1 callers that what they were seeing June 24th was a controlled burn instead of an out-of-control fire. The blaze was fully contained Monday, after destroying more than 250 homes and burning about 3,100 acres. The CHP's Truckee dispatch center was flooded with calls about the fire starting around 2 pm on the Sunday it began. Fire officials say there were no controlled burns in the South Lake Tahoe area that day. |

Upon landing all indicators told the pilot that the landing gear was down and locked. During the actual landing it was discovered that the nose gear had not come down. The pilot was able to land safely on the nose of the plane with minimal damage to the aircraft and no injuries to the pilot or Air Base employees. Recommendations for immediate corrective action * The pilot was wearing proper flight PPE. * All emergency procedures were followed once it was indicated that the nose gear had not deployed. * Due to the extensive experience of the pilot there were no injuries and minim" |
